Description of artists work and experience

Since 1991 Abu Jafar has lived and worked in England, taking his inspiration from psychology, philosophy, classical music and observation and involvement in urban (and some rural) life and environment. By producing work that is far from traditional, Abu Jafar actively attempts to destabilise static ideas of art; his art is a synthesis of colour, compositional element and immediacy of presentation combined into unusual forms. In late January 1995 he moved from London to Brockhall Village at the heart of the Ribble Valley, Lancashire. After a year and half he moved to London in November 1996 to establish a gallery and carry on his artwork.

Abu Jafar is now experimenting with oil colour, acrylic, watercolour and glass. Light, powder colour, cloth, water, smoke, snow and sound have been used in his audio-visual installations. Some of Abu’s work has involved features of both painting and sculpture and this has given it a hybrid character.

Abu studied fine arts, painting and drawing at the Institute of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka, Bangladesh 1984/89, Master Drawing of the human figure at the Guildhall University, London 1989/90, Art and Art History at the Goldsmith’s College, University of London 1991/92 and Philosophy of Arts at the Open University, 1997 UK

Abu Jafar at the GSK Science Park, Harlow, UK

Abu Jafar’s Sculpture show at the GSK Science Park, Harlow, UK start from 24th September till November 24 November 09.

Sculpture ‘Wonder Nature’ by Abu Jafar in collaboration with Ewa Wawrzyniak. This sculpture comprises 7 structures made with plywood, ornamented with blown glass, chicken wire, stones and black lines. (Each structure is 180cm tall, 80cm wide, 30cm deep) It has been placed in the ground like an abstract flying bird wing that allows the public to go through and wonder around each structure in every direction to enjoy the link with the thinking process that excites us. Particularly this sculpture has a sense of finished and unfinished mood that creates a question mark like a jigsaw puzzle.
